Fund Raising

The activities detailed below are only a small example of what we do to produce our income that let’s us support the individuals, charities and organisations we help. These are not the only means we use to raise funds.

Lions, unlike many other charities, use none of the cash given to us for administration. The costs of running the club are met entirely by the members own subscriptions, so you can be sure that when you donate £1 to a Lions club, that entire £1 will be used for the benefit of others less well off than yourself.

We always carefully monitor the causes we support; in some cases offering a conditional pledge thus ensuring all monies achieve our objectives.

Our fund raising activities include:

Christmas Sleigh Collection

Once again the Lions Sleigh was out and about round Billericay just before Christmas. This involved being part of the Santa’s Parade at the Christmas Market on Sunday, 2nd December.

Then for 11 nights the sleigh went round many of the housing areas in Billericay. We also had permission to collect at the local Waitrose and Tesco supermarkets and in the High Street car park behind Iceland as well.

As always the reception from the public was wonderful. The excitement of the children was as intense as ever.

In 2012, thanks in part to the good weather but mainly due to the generosity of the people of Billericay we were able to raise the magnificent sum of £7,466 Thank you to everyone who made a donation; most of this will be used to help a number of charities in and around Billericay.

Thank you also to all the members and their friends and family, who gave their support to come out, helping us to continue this important work

This is to be held on Saturday, 20th April 2013 at the Emmanuel Church, Laindon Road, Billericay.

Advance tickets are now on sale at £12. They will also be available on the night at £15 if there are any left . This event is proving to be very popular and interest in tickets is already extremely high, so please book now if you don’t want to be disappointed.

See Swing Time Returns web page for further details.

Billericay Beer Festival

The 4th Billericay Beer Festival will be taking place over the weekend of Friday 28th June – Sunday 30th June 2013. As in past years this will be held at Billericay Town Football Club.

This has now become an annual event that the people of Billericay can come along and enjoy a pint or two of real ale whilst being able to enjoy listening to some live music and also having something to eat at the same time.

If you have not been before, please come along and try some of the 50 different beers and ciders that will be on offer this year. By doing so, you will not only be able to enjoy yourselves but you will also be helping the Lions raise money for local charitable causes at the same time; and how good can that be?

See billericaybeerfestival.co.uk for further details.

Quizzes

Regular general knowledge charity quizzes are organised twice a year.

Food Taste Nights

Following on from our last three  years' very successful food taste nights combined with a quiz, Billericay Lions will be holding a further taste evening on Saturday 9th March 2013.

As usual this will involve a number of taste courses of delicious foreign food interspersed with appropriately themed quiz questions.

See our Taste of Spain page for further details.
