You've watched the TV series, now try our quiz. There are clues to a 100 different places that can be found on, or near, the coast of the British mainland, we haven't even ventured on to the Isle of Wight. There is everything from large cities to small villages. We hope you will enjoy our selection of clues, some cryptic, some factual. To give a little more help we have included the number of letters in each answer.

Copies of the quiz can be downloaded here and you can send your fee with your completed entry, or if you still want the thrill of receiving a paper copy in the post they can still be requested by sending a stamped, addressed envelope and entry fee to :-

Queries and Updates

To clarify a number of queries that have been received and discussions seen on web forums.

No 57 should read “The BBC's seaside parish (9)” and not “The BBC's seaside parish (8)”.

No 74, we are only looking for one answer, sometimes this place is known by its full name (7-2-3) and sometimes in an abbreviated form of just (7). Either version of answer will be accepted.

The answers are 100 different places. If you have the same answer for two questions, one of them is wrong.

The great apostrophe debate! We have chosen to include apostrophes and other similar punctuation in the letter count, so if “World’s End” was one of the answers, the clue would give the letters as (7 3)

We have received a query asking for a definition of the places that are the answers to the quiz. The majority are towns, cities, villages or district of them.  The rest are specific coastal locations you will find on the map, but not large geographic areas that include parts of the country that are inland.
